Sydnee can bring a smile to anyone she meets! She is a very strong and happy little girl! She's our Hero!
Favorite Hobbies:
Sydnee could sing 24-7 if she wasn't at school, in the bath, at church, asleep.... She loves music!!! Sydnee also enjoys watching movies, spending time with family, especially her brother Andrew and everything PRINCESS!!!
Proudest Accomplishment:
Just being here with us! She has been through so much in her short life and she is still smiling and singing!
MPS Heroes:
Dr. Robert Krance from Texas Children's Hospital in Houston has been our daughter's lifesaver! When we first met him back in 2000 we were a little nervous. I am not really sure if he ever even smiled during our hour long meeting. We actually ended up taking Sydnee to Ft. Worth for her transplant but ended up back in Houston when she got a life threatening infection. Dr. Krance turned out to be the most devoted and caring doctor that Sydnee has ever had. We truly believe that if it wasn't for Dr. Krance our daughter would not be alive today! We thank God for him every day!
Words of Wisdom:
Just take one day at a time! Who knows what the future will hold!
Personal Diagnosis Experience:
Sydnee developed normally throughout her 1st year of life but continued to have many ear infections and she snored like a sailor! Finally after her 3rd pediatrician (at 15 months) she was referred to a genetics doctor for testing. We will never forget that date - June 15th, 2000 - DIAGNOSIS!
After the tears and anger subsided and questioning why, we made a decision that we believe truly saved her life! Sydnee had a non-related bone marrow (from a wonderful, giving man named Andy Campion) transplant at Cooks Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth. The transplant process itself went pretty smoothly but 9 months later Sydnee developed Epstein Barr Virus in her right lymph node and spleen and then 2 months later in her brain! The virus in her brain caused her to have a stroke on her entire right side. To this day that was the only time we ever truly thought she might not make it.
Well, here we are almost 6 years later and Sydnee is doing great (great for a Hurlers kids that is). She just turned 7 years old in March and is about to graduate from kindergarten. She continues to receive occupational, physical and speech therapy throughout the week. Sydnee has a long way to go but we look at where she has been and it is a miracle! She continues to amaze us each and every day!
